If you’re a regular person lucky enough to get past the velvet ropes into one of these parties, what do you talk to these people about? At Saturday’s brunch we saw Lani Hay, a glamazon government contractor work the room with her two brand-new tiny teacup-sized puppies. (”This is Noor-Latifah,” she said, “and this one’s Biggie Smalls.”) One minute she was hugging TV actor Tim Daly, of “Private Practice” and “Wings”; the next, she was in a cozy conversation with Kevin Jonas and his wife Danielle.

She jokes to us later that the Jonas Brothers (yes, all three were there) had “kidnapped” her puppies. “I didn’t even know who they were!”

Correspondents’ Dinner

The Jonas Brothers pulled up just after we arrived. In addition to Chase, Shepard and Murdoch, with his wife Wendi Deng at his side, DC’s media elite rubbed shoulders under the tents. Kardashian, a guest of Van Susteren and Fox News, kept her mini-fan in hand during the 89-degree day. She’d taken the red-eye in, but stayed and chatted with the crowd for about an hour before heading out.

According to the Associated Press, the audience at the Washington Hilton was full of household name appreciators, like celebrities Justin Bieber, The Jonas Brothers, Michael Douglas, Alec Baldwin, Mary J Blige, Adrian Grenier, John Cusack, Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardasian Jessica Alba, Jeremy Piven, Dennis Quaid, Steven Speilberg, and Michelle Pfeiffer.

This year’s event drew a cross section of celebs, from The Jonas Brothers (Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato held hands all night, we hear), teen heartthrob Justin Bieber (who was staying up way past his bedtime) mingled with CIA director Leon Panetta before posing with reality TV/sex tape star Kim Kardashian, who also rubbed elbows with TV political host Chris Matthews. Hollywood heavyweights Michel Douglas and Steven Spielberg were seen chatting with White House aide Rahm Emmanuel. What did they talk about? That’s what we want to know.

Kevin and Joe Jonas keep their significant others close to them as they arrive at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C. on Saturday evening (May 1).

After the dinner, Nick, Joe, Kevin, Danielle and Demi Lovato all attended the Bloomberg/Vanity Fair after party held at the residence of the French Ambassador, Pierre Vimont.
