Joe Jonas Gushes About Filming ‘Hot In Cleveland’ Cameo With Betty White
‘Watching Betty White knit is just so adorable,’ he tells MTV News.
Somewhere in between preparing for and launching the current Jonas Brothers tour and starring in Disney’s “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” Joe Jonas found the time to do a guest spot on TV Land’s new hit, “Hot in Cleveland.”
MTV News was invited to visit the set recently to catch a glimpse of the middle Jonas in action. In the episode, which airs Wednesday night (August 11), Jonas’ character comes to visit his newly transplanted mom, played by Valerie Bertinelli. In the scene we watched, mother and son sit down to reconnect at a restaurant, and Jonas plays the “typical aloof teen” to a T — he is texting friends throughout the conversation, despite his mom’s attempts to capture his attention.
When we caught up with the 20-year-old between takes, Jonas said despite having prior sitcom work in his own TV series “JONAS” on the Disney Channel, work on the “Cleveland” set was a completely new experience.
“We don’t have a live audience,” he said of the major difference. “And I’m hanging out with some amazing actresses. They are just incredible. Everyone on the set is just so talented. I’m playing Valerie’s son, and I’m having a lot of fun. We rehearsed, and we just shot our first scene together, so hopefully it will look all right.”
Asked if TV veteran Bertinelli or co-stars Wendy Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White had imparted any advice, Jonas said he was just trying to soak up everything from the actresses.
“Just being around them, they are so talented that you just learn so much from them so quickly,” he said. “And hanging out with them and watching Betty White knit is just so adorable, so I’m having a great time.”
Speaking of White, we threw Jonas a curveball by asking: If Joe could be any Golden Girl, which one would he be?
“Betty, of course. Rose, yes,” he said. “It’s kinda an odd question to ask which Golden Girl I would be, but my favorite would just have to be Betty, because I know her now.”

Joe Jonas Admits to “Geeking Out” While Filming Hot in Cleveland Guest Spot
How did Joe Jonas react to working with Betty White?
By “totally geeking out [and] taking pictures,” he tells TVGuide.com.
On Wednesday’s Hot in Cleveland, which stars Valerie Bertinelli , Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, the 20-year-old guest-stars as the son of Melanie (Bertinelli). He’s stopping by to say hi on his way to college.
Considering the actor is much younger than the show’s stars as well as notable guest stars like Carl Reiner (88) and Tim Conway (76), Jonas asserts, “the scenes are really funny … anyone from any age will get the role and enjoy it.”
Jonas adds that his whole family (that includes famous brothers and bandmates Nick and Kevin) is a fan of Bertinelli’s and that he learned a lot from the cast, “especially making mistakes and not feeling embarrassed about it.”
Jonas especially enjoyed working with the 88-year-old White.
“It was such an honor, so I took as many pictures as I could. [Our] scenes together are pretty funny … people are going to laugh when they see us together,” he says.
Will Jonas return as part of the Cleveland family next season? “It would be awesome to come back,” he says. “I told the writers I’m down.”
Hot in Cleveland airs Wednesday at 10/9c on TV Land.

Joe Jonas gets ‘Hot in Cleveland’ with Betty White
Singer Joe Jonas got to experience firsthand the wonder that is Betty White while filming his cameo for her TV Land series, “Hot in Cleveland.”
In the episode, which airs tonight, the 20-year-old Jonas Brother plays Valerie Bertinelli’s teen son Will, and in one scene, is shown texting away as his mom tries to reconnect with him over dinner. “It’s amazing,” Jonas told Entertainment Tonight of being on set. “The cast is so nice and helpful throughout the scenes, especially Valerie.”
But his favorite moment by far involved the one-and-only White, who sat knitting for another scene. “Watching Betty White knit is just so adorable!” Jonas gushed to MTV News, adding that if he could be any Golden Girl, he’d choose 88-year-old Betty’s character, Rose.
“My favorite would just have to be Betty,” he explained, “because I know her now.”
As for his future plans, Jonas told MTV he’s been busy working on some new music. Does this mean hes ready to fly solo? “I didn’t say that,” he laughed. “I said I’ve been working on lots of music. I’ve been working [with] lots of musicians having a great time.”
